For now I will show you what few things we have sorted and day by day (or week by week, possibly even month by month) I will post the progress.
Those of you who are crafty and gifted with artistic minds feel free to comment or add suggestions...clearly, as you will soon see, I could use all the help I can get :)
The spare bedroom before Bean was in the picture. Sorry to disappoint you Chloe and Charlie but the bed has been removed and a crib (cot bed) has been inserted. Couch still has your names on it though :)
As of today (March 22- 11 days until due date) the room does look a little better than this, but not too much to be honest. I do have things put away and a little more organized rather than everything on the floor. But we still have a ways to go.
Project #1- Charli the Elephant Mobile
I individually cut each elephant out rather than investing in a stamp cutter (or some call a die cutter).
I suggest investing in this.
I got the scrap book papers from the local scrap book shop in town.
The elephants are strung together with thread and at the bottom of every strand is a
bead I got from the local market.
Giles found the top of the mobile from the pound shop (dollar tree). It's purpose was to dry wet clothes from the washing machine. With a little tweaking here and there it has worked out
perfectly for the top of the mobile.
Ours has yet to be hung in the nursery because Giles likes it hanging in our sitting room :)
It will get there eventually.
I got the idea from Pintrest and the motivation from my friend Allie. She too made her own mobile, hers being white butterflies for her daughter Harper (whom she had 2 days ago!!!
Harper Alexandra Short 3/20/13, 8lbs, 3oz)
Project #2- Baby Changing Table
The changing table was donated (or given) to us by our friend Lily who lives in town.
She got it for
£3 ($4.50) at a house clearance sale. She thought it would work perfectly as a changing table and that's just what we are using it for.
Giles first painted it with a white undercoat. He did 2 separate coats.
And then the final 2 coats of the color 'Egyptian Cotton'- Basically a very fancy name for a light grey.

Project #3- Chest of Drawers
Bought the chest of drawers on ebay for
£25 ($38)
I did 2 white under coats and 2 aqua coats.
I mixed some paints we had at the hotel to create the aqua color. I thought about distressing it but have decided to keep it simple. The drawer handles were an extra as one was broken off when we bought it.
If Beaners is a boy we will add orange accents and if a girl, pink.

Oh Malia I am so proud!!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE the elephant mobile. Reminds me of India, although I've never been. I associate colorful elephants with it. Great job!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Em! Funny you should say that because that's exactly what I had in mind when I was picking the scrap paper as well. Once I made it I thought it reminded me more of a rainbow rather than India (wasn't too happy about this) but figure the colors are good for the babies eyes. xx
